Rich Smith
rich@asnproductions.com

Rich Smith has spent years promoting athletes into greatness. He started out in the scouting world working with other companies before launching ASN sports. These companies, Rich determined, seemed to lack passion and commitment for their clients. Rich discovered he had the passion and he would make the athlete the center attraction by devoting his time towards their total success!

Since then, Smith has worked with many student athletes helping them to succeed not only in growing and maturing as an athlete but as a well rounded student too. He has developed a program that introduces video presentations and other promotions, along with counseling, tutoring and advising for the students. Having a background of several years officiating baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer, Rich has watched young players develop into college level athletes and learners.

With the knowledge Rich has ascertained, he continues to work with major colleges taking road trips to see what those universities really want in competitive style athletes. He involves himself in work, even working out with some teams to always have an idea of the real picture of college life today. Rich hand selects those for his program finding the student athlete that most give up on helping them develop successful goals and habits. With his outstanding video production department, Rich Smith captures the best in an individual producing the finest quality digital video in the market today.

James Palen
james@asnproductions.com

James Palen is a multimedia journalist who has been involved in coverage of sports for six years. Before receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from San Diego State University in 2008, he had already branched out into the fields of radio broadcasting, video production and photography alongside his focus in print.

From 2003 to 2004, he held the position of overnight talent at the Temecula radio station 101.3 KATY. Before transferring to SDSU in 2004 from Palomar College, he was awarded first place at the statewide Journalism Association of Community Colleges convention in Los Angeles for his print profile feature “Freedom Runners,” which detailed the struggles and comebacks of three Palomar student-athletes injured in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

While at SDSU, James covered a potpourri of events, athletes and public matters while writing as an assistant editor for The Daily Aztec and learning to shoot, produce and edit video. Some of his most notable interviews include San Diego Padres great Tony Gwynn, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at the height of the autism-vaccine battle and local organizers for the now-widely known Tea Party movement.

Now out of the college scene, he continues to cover sports for an online publication in Riverside County as a freelancer and spends his Fridays with San Diego’s KUSI television station covering high school football as a behind-the-scenes field producer.

Chris Swann
Chris@asnproductions.com

Chris Swann is an Innovator, Performer, Song Writer, and Engineer who now resides in Oceanside, California with his wife Elaine. Originally from Washington D.C., where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering, Chris started playing music in the inner city where he was inspired by groups like “Sugar Bear”, “Experience Unlimited”, “Rare Essence”, “Air Raid” and “Regulation Band”.

There Mr. Swann was involved in a situation that led him to go on tour with Tom Curren’s band, a three-time world champion and renowned surfer. After touring all the East Coast Surf Spots, Tom asked Chris if he would like to change his life style, come live in Carlsbad, CA., play music, surf everyday, and join his Christian Rock band permanently. Chris accepted, and the rest is history having toured the world with the band. "The travel, the people, the opportunity to visit other countries was
awesome", Chris Swann tells us.

Today, while Chris still plays bass with "The Noahs," he has also branched out and begun writing some of his own songs which have been featured on some of the biggest TV shows and movies in the extreme sports industry. Mr. Swann has also opened his own company, Swann Concepts (www.swannconcepts.com), an Oceanside-based business that specializes in permanent and temporary multimedia installations.

After spending nearly 20 years in the music industry, Swann has some wise advice to pass onto those just starting. “Copyright everything. Even if you’re just putting a song on the Internet, make sure to copyright it. You’ll be happy you did and your music will be protected.”

Tim Johnson is ASN Productions director of player development. He coordinates player staff meetings and does research for the development of individual athletic / student profiles by researching their teams and schools. Johnson meets with individual players and gets to know them where possible.  He gives the player his personal attention which is his strength and does comparative box score and league standings evaluations.

Tim looks for high performance high lights in newspapers, from news on TV, and on the internet, and associates himself with the athlete's coaches and principals in a reporting mode and fact gatherer. On top of all this, he runs production for on location sporting events capturing camera shots and action video. Tim seems to have developed a real talent and makes things happen easily by turning

his findings over to the editing staff and even doing some editing himself.  These behind the scenes handlings at the studio can sometimes entail long hours of review and discussions of the initial filming.

He has worked as an office assistant for an automotive repair shop, and as a Salesman and Technical Assistant with Hollywood Video and enjoys playing the drums and guitar. Does anyone need to record an event happening?
Tim Johnson is the man to call at ASN Productions.

Currently, though, Tim is on leave from ASN Productions while he serves in the Military and was recently promoted to Navy Seaman Apprentice serving in the Naval Advanced Electronics and Computer Field (AECF).
